From The Commander

August 2017

Greetings to all, I hope your summer has been spectacular.

If you are a member of the Post you are, just by being a member, supporting the Post.  “If” that is the only way you are able to support the Post, that is fine.  Many members have obligations or restrictions: family, jobs, age (young or old), disabilities, that prevent us from doing more.  Additionally, many post members have already done their part: Past Commanders, Past Quartermasters, Past House Committee Chairmen and so on.  These folks have done their “bit” and have earned the right to relax and enjoy the Post for what it is.

However, if you do not fit into one of the groups listed above…Where are you?  Currently we have a small group of members doing almost all of the work needed to keep the Post alive.  These folks are quickly reaching burnout!  Please, attend our monthly meetings (the first Thursday of the month), check the schedule and attend our dinners (both the Post and the Aux) and consider “getting involved.”  Many positions and event coordinator spots are open and in need of help.

In closing, please remember what this VFW Post is about: “Helping Veterans!”

If you find yourself feeling the need to comment or complain about a particular issue, ask yourself this question first, “Is this about helping the Post or Veterans or, is this about me?” All too often people live by the term, “W.I.F.M.” or, “What’s In It For Me?”  Post 541 is about Veterans, members or non-members…VETERANS FIRST!

My Best Regards,

John Stankewicz – Commander
